A Club Ship Policy Update…
The following is a reminder about the ‘one-hour’ policy when flying
the club ships. Sunday 6/11 was a flying day I was really looking forward
to. The weather was good, lift great, and it seemed as if I could stay
at cloud base as long as I wanted.
I had waited to launch until after all of the glass ships were up and
seeing no other club members had decided to see just how long I could
keep the club's 1-26 up. Did I mention that I hadn’t noticed that the
radio was set to 122.3? Needless to say, one of our newest members showed
up just after I launched and ended up waiting two hours for my return.
The intercept by the towplane at 7000’ was rather interesting, thanks
Wayne . And the close passes with 1T where I learned just how close you
have to be to another ship to clearly see the pilot giving you the thumbs
down signal were most exciting too, thanks Kelly. Yes, even I finally
got the hint...
But I digress, on with the policy update:
To better ensure everyone’s flying habit is fulfilled, club ships are
available in one hour increments. Here’s the policy
update part - the OD will add a 3K tow fee to the daily log for the pilot
that keeps any club ship out longer than one hour. The only exception
being if positive radio communication is maintained with the OD and the
ship’s continued availability is regularly verified. Using a club ship
longer than an hour keeps our fellow club members on the ground and costs
the club revenue for missed tows. So, don’t do it unless the OD told you
on the radio that it’s OK. This is the part of a reminder where I might
say something nasty about the no-good-son-of-a-so-and-so that caused this
little policy update, but it was me and since I write the newsletter,
we'll just move on.
See you at the field,
