Annual Boerne Soaring Pilgrimage Update

by Peter English

The safari to Boerne was a huge success. If you have done it before, you know what I mean. If you have not, it is a fantastic chance to have fun, and in my case learn how to point away from FLF and fly away.

I had the opportunity to fly the Grob from FLF to Boerne with Ian Nadas, who was a great combination of knowledge, calm, and most important, my get-out-of-landout-free card. We started the day with some weak thermalling at about 3500-4000 MSL. The difference between the Grob and my LS3a were such that it took me a few thermals to get properly coordinated. (take the time now to read Peter's complete article)

note the confident post-Boerne smile on his mug

Peter English prepares to launch his LS3 on 8/13/06.

Please join me in welcoming a few of our newest members (left to right) Ben Hunter, Chris Hunter, and Dan Hansen. They were getting in a little group instruction time with our own Peter C. on 8/12/06.

Gonzo provides our Week 'O' Soaring wrap up

"Here’s my POV of the week 'o' soaring: I flew over 53 hours and was able to gather hopefully 8 Texas records (they haven’t been approved, but hopefully they will). Furthermore, Rich flew some 750Km (or close to it) tasks, yet managed to land in Burnet once. I also believe that Bill Snead set a world record or US record in his peewee... I think Peter English obtained his Silver Distance.

Many thanks to Gonzo and Peter for providing some great content for the newsletter. I hope you enjoyed their words and photos as much as I did. I'm thinking we may be seeing Gonzo's work on the cover of Soaring soon.

Questions, comments, concerns - send me a note and we'll get them sent to the right folks or put them in the next newsletter.

see you at the field,

Pat
